xplanation:

The California Nebula, NGC 1499 is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus.
Unlike to other typical HII nebulaes, there is very little OIII emission but relatively
much emission in SII. With a distance of only approx. 1000 Ly, NGC 1499 is
the nearest HII nebula.

The colors are mapped to Hubble-palette:

red = SII
green = H-alpha
blue = OIII
